1. The adventure format of each Expedition creates anticipation for each new lesson. At the end of each class period a new Expedition Sheet & Journal Sheet is handed out to the students. If class time permits, the new Expedition can be completed during the end of the period or it can be worked on at home. My students are able to do most of the work before leaving. 2. Markers (or drawings unique to each Expedition) are taught and through constant repetition are slowly learned. On each Journal all the Markers are again drawn out. Often after opening devotions, I have a student go to the board and draw out all the Markers learned to date as other students give the title to each and define their meaning. 3. Key to the learning is the attaching of information from both the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism to these Markers. When I have met with parents and students in the fall to begin confirmation, I have without warning asked a previous year’s class, working together, to go to the board and draw and define as many markers as possible. All present have been amazed at how much information is recalled. 4. The Expeditions are divided into a variety of areas that introduce material, draws the students into working with the Bible and the Catechism, do critical reflection, and finally to write a response to a hypothetical situation that allows the student to integrate the concepts learned into real life applications. 5. The first in the series is called The Ancient Pathway. This journey teaches the basic chronology of Old Testament history along with the Catechism. 6. The second course is called The Galilean Way. Students journey within the New Testament learning key information about the life of Christ and His teachings. Once again the subject matter draws upon the Catechism as well. 7. The final course is titled The Reformation Road. Traveling with Luther from his birth to his death, students learn about Reformation history and again with insights from the Catechism. |
At present, only The Reformation Road is ready for publication. PDF files are placed on CDs to be downloaded and reproduced in quantities to meet student needs. There is a one time cost for the CDs, and they can be used without reservation and for years after the purchase. It is not necessary for students to have studied the first two courses before studying The Reformation Road. Click on picture to the right to learn more. |
