God’s people throughout history have not remained faithful. The Old Testament records many times when the people of God, including their leaders, went astray. The followed after other gods. They enjoyed sinful passions. The Church at the time of Luther had become corrupt. God used reformers, like Martin Luther, to remake His church. The Reformation resulted in the rediscovery of the Gospel. |

The Reformation Road propels us into another fantastic adventure together. Most of you have walked along The Ancient Pathway through the corridors of history to The Galilean Way. Now you leap forward to a time when honorable knights fought for gallant causes and Columbus was about to discover new lands to the west. Christianity dominated most of Europe through the influence of the Roman Catholic Church. The Greek Orthodox Church also impacted the theological and political landscape. |
The Roman Catholic Church had become corrupt. Roland Bainton in his book on Luther, Here I Stand, makes this comment about the Roman Catholic Church at the time Luther entered the stage of history: “In his day, as Catholic historians all agree, the popes of the Renaissance were secularized, flippant, frivolous, sensual, magnificent, and unscrupulous.” In other words, the church leadership was bad as it punched holes in the Word of God. |
